Colorado Trip Summary

Great late summer trip to the Leadville, CO area.  Weather was sunny and mild.  500 miles driven and 77 miles of hiking over 7 days.  After leaving I-70 and driving over Fremont Pass (11,318'), you descend into the Arkansas River Valley where I spent almost the whole trip.  The bottom picture is the Upper Arkansas River.  It flows 1469 miles (6th longest in US) until it joins the Mississippi in southeast Arkansas.

 Fabulous late summer trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains of California! 1540 miles driven and 124 miles of hiking over 16 days! Lone Pine, Walker, Bridgeport, Lee Vining, Bishop and Lone Pine again were the towns where we rested and dined. Slight delay getting home due to Hurricane Helene gave us an extra day in the 70 degree sunshine of El Segundo on the Pacific! We had an extended stay in Bishop so we could explore Highway 168 west of town.  Some of the most beautiful Sierra lakes were relatively easy day hikes from there.  Long Lake in the John Muir Wilderness was one of my favorites.  Inyo NF.
