Southern San Luis Valley

Southern Colorado, near Antonito, CO. Carson and Sante Fe National Forests are closed in New Mexico due to extreme fire conditions, so I had to continue north to Rio Grande and San Juan National Forests.  San Antonio mountain overlooks the Rio Grande Valley.

 Fabulous late summer trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains of California! 1540 miles driven and 124 miles of hiking over 16 days! Lone Pine, Walker, Bridgeport, Lee Vining, Bishop and Lone Pine again were the towns where we rested and dined. Slight delay getting home due to Hurricane Helene gave us an extra day in the 70 degree sunshine of El Segundo on the Pacific! We had an extended stay in Bishop so we could explore Highway 168 west of town.  Some of the most beautiful Sierra lakes were relatively easy day hikes from there.  Long Lake in the John Muir Wilderness was one of my favorites.  Inyo NF.

Early Spring in the Sierras

Great early spring trip to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in NV and CA.  1360 miles driven over 14 days.  100 miles hiked, including 4 big snowshoe days! One of the highlights of the trip was the ending in Pahrump! Definitely want to visit again.
